Portmarnock Golf Links, situated on the ancestral estate of the Jameson whiskey family, emerged from what was once their private nine-hole course. Designed by Bernhard Langer in collaboration with landscape architect Stan Eby, the course debuted in 1996 and neighbours the renowned Portmarnock Golf Club, although they are independently operated.
Known for its understated elegance, the Links utilises the natural links terrain effectively. The opening holes traverse gently undulating ground adorned with varied grasses and pot bunkers, setting the tone for a classic links experience. The back nine presents a more dramatic landscape, featuring rugged sand dunes that add to the course’s allure.
In 2021, Canadian investors acquired the resort and promptly embarked on enhancing the golf course, particularly maximising the potential of the dunes on the latter half of the course. Directed by Jeff Lynch of (re)GOLF, in collaboration with DAR Golf, extensive renovations began from the 8th hole onward. This included new tees, the addition of an irrigation lake, and the installation of new greens, resulting in changes to several hole configurations and par values.
Following its reopening in October 2023, the course continues to evolve, with plans to replace the old par three 17th hole with a new short par four by the subsequent year.
