Tom Doak, renowned for his exceptional course designs globally, expanded his portfolio with the Renaissance Club course in Archerfield Estate, adjacent to Muirfield, in April 2008. Carved out of 300 acres of pine forest, the design retained strategic trees, enhancing both the landscape’s definition and aesthetics.
In 2013, a land swap with the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers allowed the addition of three new coastal holes. These new holes, along with the preceding 8th hole, notably connect the course to the coastline. The par four 10th stands out as a dramatic addition, positioned tightly along the cliffs above the Firth of Forth.
The Renaissance Club has hosted prestigious events like the Scottish Senior Open in 2017, won by Paul Broadhurst, and the 2019 Scottish Open, won by Bernd Wiesberger in a thrilling playoff against Benjamin Hebert. Aaron Rai claimed the 2020 title in another playoff, defeating Tommy Fleetwood. In 2021, Min Woo Lee won a three-man playoff to secure his second European Tour title.
