Woburn Golf Club (Marquess)

Overview

Woburn Golf Club stands out in England as the sole venue with all three of its courses consistently ranked in the Top 100 since the inception of rankings in 2006. The Marquess course, spanning Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, unfolds across 200 acres of majestic woodland within the expansive Woburn Abbey estate, historically home to the Dukes of Bedford.

Designed collaboratively by Ross McMurray, Clive Clark, Peter Alliss, and Alex Hay, the Marquess course debuted in 2000. Unlike its pine forest counterparts, the Duke’s and the Duchess, the Marquess features wider fairways and more undulating terrain graced by park-like trees such as oak, yew, chestnut, rowan, and beech.

At over 7,000 yards from the championship tees, the Marquess poses a formidable challenge. It hosted the British Masters in 2001 and 2002, with Thomas Levet and Justin Rose claiming victories, underscoring its championship pedigree.

With its trio of distinguished courses – Duke’s, Duchess, and Marquess – Woburn Golf Club has cemented its reputation as one of England’s premier golfing destinations. The Marquess, poised amidst picturesque woodlands and designed for both challenge and beauty, is poised to mature into one of Britain’s finest championship layouts.
