Real Club de Golf Las Brisas

Overview

Las Brisas Golf Club, located on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol near Malaga, stands as one of the region’s premier courses, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1968 and later renovated by Kyle Phillips in 2014. Known for its strategic layout and meticulous maintenance, Las Brisas was among the first in Europe to feature bent grass, a decision vindicated when it hosted the 1973 World Cup of Golf, won by Jack Nicklaus and Johnny Miller.

The course’s allure extends beyond its history; it challenges golfers with strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, and elevated greens that emphasise accuracy over sheer distance. The layout opens with a series of demanding holes and continues with sweeping fairways flanked by stands of trees on the back nine, offering a blend of risk and reward scenarios.

Notable holes include the challenging 2nd, requiring precision off the tee around a pond, and the daring 8th, where players must negotiate a water hazard crossing in front of the green. The 12th, a par 5 demanding a heroic approach over water, and the modified 15th, famously tackled by Nicklaus in the World Cup, add further excitement to Las Brisas’ reputation as a top-class golf destination.
