Coxmoor Golf Club

Overview

Coxmoor Golf Club, established in 1913, is situated on a high heathland plateau near Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. The current 18-hole course, largely designed by Tom Williamson and Len White in the 1930s, showcases appealing and challenging play.

Perched on one of Nottinghamshire’s highest points, Coxmoor offers sweeping views of the Leicestershire Wolds and Vale of Belvoir, visible from the 13th tee on clear days. Stretching over 6,700 yards with a par of 73, the course features five par fives and several demanding holes, notably the tough par fours at the 5th and 12th, particularly challenging in windy conditions.

Popular among visiting societies, Coxmoor receives high praise for its excellent course conditions and warm hospitality. Alec Shepperson, the club president, has represented Great Britain twice in the Walker Cup, facing Jack Nicklaus in singles during his second appearance in 1959. The club’s professional role has been notably stable, with only four incumbents since its inception.

Coxmoor has hosted Regional Qualifying for the Open Championship and the British Seniors Amateur Open Championship. Alongside renowned local courses like Hollinwell, Worksop, and Sherwood Forest, Coxmoor contributes to Nottinghamshire’s reputation as a prime golfing destination.
