Originally designed by Laidlaw Purves, the course underwent refinements by renowned architects James Braid at the turn of the 20th century and Alister MacKenzie in the 1920s. Post-World War II, Frank Pennink made modifications to the bunkers, while Donald Steel and Peter Alliss provided guidance on minor changes in 2000.
