The Talon course at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, offers a unique golfing experience thanks to the design expertise of architect Gary Panks and two-time Major winner David Graham. The course, often overshadowed by its sister course, Raptor, showcases the duo’s creativity, particularly through a series of memorable short holes that take full advantage of the area’s distinctive landforms.
One of the most iconic holes is the par-three 11th, a 175-yard challenge from the back tees. To reach this elevated tee box, players cross a swinging bridge, setting the stage for a shot across a desert expanse to a green perched within a box canyon. This dramatic setting makes it one of the most photographed holes on the course.
The back nine continues the theme of dramatic landscapes, especially on the 305-yard 13th hole, aptly named “Heaven or Hell.” Here, players can either risk a direct shot over a Cape-style box canyon to reach the green or face the consequences if their bold attempt falls short.
Grayhawk’s Talon course is a testament to creative course design, offering both visual appeal and strategic challenges that linger in players’ minds long after the round is over.
