When TPC Scottsdale was developed, the Stadium course immediately established itself as the flagship venue, famously hosting the most attended party on the PGA Tour calendar. Over time, efforts have been made to elevate the status of its companion course, the Champions.
Randy Heckenkemper’s significant renovations in 2007 played a crucial role in this effort. Despite being overshadowed by the Stadium course, the Champions course is only about 100 yards shorter at 7,100 yards. The longest hole across both courses is the 605-yard par five at Champions’ 17th.
Notably, two par fours on the Champions course stand out for their strategic options off the tee. The long par four at No. 5 echoes the famous Channel hole from Lido, featuring a risky leftward fairway over water that can significantly shorten the approach to the green for the bold. Across the pond, a more traditional Weiskopf/Morrish design awaits at the drivable par four, tempting players with a direct line to the green for those willing to take the risk after the lessons learned on No. 5.
These features highlight the Champions course’s evolution towards greater recognition alongside its celebrated sibling at TPC Scottsdale.
