Archerfield, established in 2004, offers an upscale golfing experience within its vast estate, featuring the Fidra and Dirleton courses. Positioned between North Berwick and Muirfield, these new courses aim to rival their esteemed neighbours, successfully living up to expectations.
Golf has a longstanding presence on the Archerfield estate, dating back centuries. Originally a 6-hole course, it expanded to 18 holes under Ben Sayers’ direction before the estate was utilised by the Ministry of Defence during WWII. Local entrepreneur Kevin Doyle revitalised the estate, enlisting David Russell and David Williams to design the courses as part of a luxurious development.
The Dirleton course, spanning 5,503 to 6,946 yards, boasts over sixty sand traps, traditional pot bunkers, and expansive, links-style greens. Notable holes include the challenging 16th, characterised by strategic bunkering and a dry ditch.
The clubhouse, completed in 2007, complements the on-course experience. Formerly exclusive to members and guests, Archerfield now welcomes visitors, offering tee times based on availability.
