Enniscrone Golf Club, initially a nine-hole course founded in 1918, gained prominence in 1974 when Eddie Hackett expanded it to 18 holes. Donald Steel later extended it to 27 holes, incorporating new land and altering the original flat opening holes to blend better with the rugged terrain.
Known for its stunning location on a promontory overlooking Killala Bay and the Moy Estuary, with Scurmore Beach nearby and the Ox Mountains and Nephin Beg Range in the backdrop, Enniscrone offers a breathtaking setting. The main course, named Dunes (with the third nine called Scurmore), winds through massive sand dunes and undulating links land, offering multiple playing options across its 27 holes.
The course design integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, featuring rolling fairways, elevated tee shots, and greens nestled in valleys or perched atop plateaux. Stretching over 7,000 yards, Enniscrone provides a challenging yet natural golfing experience enhanced by ocean views and the ever-present coastal winds.
Recently, Mackenzie & Ebert undertook enhancements on five holes (9, 10, 12, 13, and 18) in 2023, further refining the course’s layout.
