The Links course at Fancourt, opened in November 2000, offers a distinctive and challenging South African golfing experience. Designed by Gary Player, the course was inspired by classic Scottish links courses. However, unlike its British counterparts, it doesn’t replicate the unpredictable weather.
Remarkably, this renowned venue for the 2003 Presidents Cup, which ended in a historic tie between Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, was once an airfield. The transformed landscape now features dramatic dunes set against the stunning Outeniqua Mountains, making it one of South Africa’s most unique golf courses.
Gary Player expressed his pride in the course in *Top Golf Courses of the World*, noting its transformation from flat clay terrain to a world-class course reminiscent of Ballybunion, Dornoch, or St Andrews, with rolling fairways, pot bunkers, large greens, and a seascape appearance.
Though The Links at Fancourt is a private club, a limited number of tee times are available to guests at the Fancourt Hotel, offering a rare opportunity to experience this exceptional course.
