Finca Cortesin Golf Club, which opened in 2007, stood out among the plethora of golf courses on southern Spain‘s Costa del Sol. Designed by Cabell Robinson, the course spanned nearly 7,000 metres, offering a championship-quality experience on every hole. Located inland from the Mediterranean Sea, its dramatic valley setting enhanced the golfing challenge and aesthetic appeal.
Notable holes included the par five 3rd, requiring an approach over water, and the scenic downhill par three 10th with views of the Estepona Mountains. The 11th, a challenging double dogleg par five, tested players strategically. The standout hole, however, was the par four 13th, featuring a wide fairway intersected by a water hazard and a green guarded by bunkers and water.
Finca Cortesin’s practice facilities, centred around the ‘Jack Nicklaus Academy,’ offered advanced training methods tailored to individual swing characteristics. Coupled with a five-star hotel and spa opened in 2008, the club provided a luxurious and memorable golfing experience with exceptional customer service.
The club’s prestige rose significantly when it hosted the World Match Play Championship from 2008 onwards, showcasing its international acclaim. Renovations in 2018, including environmentally friendly green relaying and bunker reconstruction, further enhanced its status.
In a historic move, Finca Cortesin hosted the 2023 Solheim Cup, marking Spain’s first time hosting the prestigious women’s golf team event. This event solidified Finca Cortesin’s position as a premier destination on the global golfing map.
