George Golf Club

Overview

George Golf Club, a cherished venue for nearly a century, was designed by Charles Murray in the 1930s, alongside notable courses like Royal Cape and Clovelly. It has largely preserved its original layout, with minor updates such as the addition of bunkers and a dam between holes one and eighteen in the 1990s.

This parkland course in George, Western Cape, is celebrated for its affordability and exceptional quality. It attracts tens of thousands of golfers annually, drawn to its well-maintained greens and consistently excellent condition, among the best in the country.

The course layout is distinctive, with the outward nine featuring one par three and one par five, while the inward nine boasts three of each. A highlight is the 17th hole, requiring a challenging tee shot over a valley to a raised green near the dam, protected by bunkers and a creek.

Over the years, George Golf Club has transformed into a scenic landscape with a variety of flora, evolving significantly from its earlier treeless state. Today, it offers golfers a tranquil experience amidst lush surroundings, akin to strolling through a private garden estate, benefitting from ample local rainfall.
