Isle of Purbeck
Golf Club (Purbeck)

Overview

The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club offers breathtaking views from its elevated heathland plateau. With 360-degree vistas, players can see the Isle of Wight to the south, Bournemouth to the east, Brownsea Island and Poole Harbour to the north, and the Purbeck Hills to the west. It’s an ideal course for non-golfing partners, as the scenery is captivating.

Founded in 1892, the course sits within a heathland nature reserve rich in gorse, heather, and rare flora and fauna. Renowned architect Harry Colt made significant modifications in the early 20th century. Notably, Enid Blyton and her husband once owned the club, and the stunning surroundings likely inspired her writing.

Though measuring under 6,300 yards, the course offers a substantial challenge with its exposed location, long par fours, and demanding par threes. Accuracy is essential to avoid the gorse and heather.

While Bournemouth boasts excellent courses like Broadstone, Ferndown, and Parkstone, the Isle of Purbeck is a standout in Dorset. The elevated 5th tee provides one of Britain’s most picturesque tee shots, making the green fee worthwhile.
