La Reserva Club de Golf, established in 2004, is the newest addition to Costa del Sol’s prestigious golfing destinations, alongside Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque. Designed by Cabell B. Robinson, renowned for his architectural prowess, the course spans over 6,700 metres from its longest tees. Wide fairways provide ample opportunity for aggressive tee shots, contrasting with the challenge of navigating the large greens to avoid three-putts from distance.
Nestled within two converging valleys shaped like a “Y,” La Reserva was carefully developed to preserve ecological integrity. During initial construction, all significant trees and plants were relocated to a nursery and replanted in their original positions. Water hazards come into play on several holes but are not overpowering, contributing strategic depth rather than dominating the course as frontal hazards.
The layout features a strategic mix of challenging par threes and lengthy par fives on both nines. Notable holes include the 164-metre 5th guarded by a lone bunker, the elevated tee shot on the 145-metre 7th, and the 222-metre 15th where water adds pressure to the tee shot. The 187-metre 17th also challenges with water on the left and bunkers guarding the green.
La Reserva has hosted prestigious events like the NH Collection Open and the La Reserva de Sotogrande Invitational, underscoring its capacity to host top-tier competitions and its standing as a premier destination for golfing excellence.
