Little Aston Golf Club

Overview

Little Aston Golf Club, nestled in 176 acres of serene parkland once part of Little Aston Hall’s estate, is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Birmingham. Designed by Harry Vardon in 1908 for a mere ten guineas, the course initially posed challenges with its long carries, prompting modifications by Harry Colt to enhance playability while preserving its elegance. Mark Lewis, the club’s professional for over four decades, contributed significantly to its development.

Renowned for its immaculate upkeep and gravel-based terrain, Little Aston maintains superb conditions year-round, boasting large greens and signature Colt bunkers. The undulating fairways lined with formal trees offer a scenic and private golfing experience akin to a leisurely stroll in a picturesque park.

Little Aston’s layout is straightforward yet demanding, with standout holes like the third, a challenging par five enticing players to unleash their shots. While it may take a few rounds to fully appreciate its nuances, the course’s honesty and strategic design make it a favourite among golf purists.

Having hosted prestigious events such as the British Masters and various amateur championships, Little Aston affirms its status as one of the Midlands‘ premier golf destinations. Despite Birmingham not being widely recognized for golf breaks, courses like Little Aston, alongside Beau Desert and Whittington Heath, elevate the region’s golfing appeal.
