Metropolitan Golf Club, originally established as The Green and Sea Point Golf Club in 1895, relocated to a new nine-hole course in 1906 and underwent several name changes over the years. The course, which featured nine holes with fifteen greens, was closed in 2006 to allow for the construction of Cape Town Stadium.
Local designer Mark Muller was commissioned to create a new layout, resulting in a similar design but with 14 different greens. The redesigned course features alternate bent grass greens for five holes and two pins on the remaining four holes. The clubhouse from the 1950s remains intact.
Known as “The MET” by visitors and members, the club still offers 18 distinct holes with unique tees and nine kikuyu grass fairways. The course, covering 55 acres, measures 5,699 metres in length. It includes two par fives (at the 3rd and 12th holes) and concludes with a picturesque par three over water, finishing in front of the clubhouse.
