The Montgomerie Maxx Royal, situated in Belek, Turkey, emerged as a hallmark project by European Golf Design, featuring Colin Montgomerie as its headline designer. Opened in 2008 within a multi-million euro development, it includes a prestigious golf academy and a 5-star hotel, enhancing Belek’s status as a premier golfing destination. The course blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings, characterised by mature pine forests and eight picturesque lakes, adding challenge and beauty to the layout.
Colin Montgomerie, proud of the project’s evolution, emphasised its transformation into a top Mediterranean course, reflecting the area’s growth as a golfing hotspot. In 2013, Montgomerie Maxx Royal hosted the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open, a European Tour event, elevating its profile further in the global golfing community. Victor Dubuisson clinched victory in the event’s debut, marking a significant milestone for both the course and Belek as a golf tourism hub.
European Golf Design, alongside Montgomerie, leveraged the site’s natural attributes, previously a commercial forest, to create a sustainable golf course. This approach integrated sandy, rolling landscapes and preserved native vegetation, aligning with environmental stewardship principles. The Montgomerie Maxx Royal’s commitment to sustainability was underscored by its participation in the GEO certification program, ensuring responsible environmental management alongside exceptional golfing experiences.
