Murcar Links Golf Club has returned to its original name and recently undergone renovations by Graeme J. Webster and Team Niblick Ltd. In spring 2006, the first phase of improvements extended the course to approximately 6,500 yards.
In 2005, Murcar hosted the BP Scottish Boys Matchplay Championships, where Scott Henry defended his title. The club also held pre-qualifying for the 2005 Senior British Open and a European Challenge Tour event in July 2006.
In November 2014, the European Tour announced the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play, part of The Race to Dubai, which debuted at Murcar in July 2015, with Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat claiming victory.
Founded in 1909 and designed by Archie Simpson of Royal Aberdeen, the course features classic links terrain with stunning views of the North Sea and Aberdeen. While measuring 6,516 yards with a par of 71, the course presents significant challenges with tight fairways, elevated greens, and strategic bunkering. The signature 7th hole, “Serpentine,” showcases the stunning landscape and demanding play that Murcar is known for, making it a must-visit for golf enthusiasts.
