Parkstone Golf Club

Overview

Parkstone is a seaside heathland course, uniquely situated on sandy, undulating terrain near Poole Bay and Poole Harbour. The fairways, lined with pine and heather, are particularly stunning in spring when rhododendrons bloom, creating a vibrant and picturesque setting.

Originally part of Lord Wimborne’s Canford Estate, the land was transformed into a golf course by Willie Park Junior in 1909. James Braid later extended and refined the layout in 1932, resulting in the 6,300-yard course enjoyed today. While not overly long, Parkstone offers a tranquil and varied challenge, making it appealing to golfers of all abilities.

This is also “Alliss” country. Peter Alliss, a legendary figure in golf, became the professional at Parkstone in 1957, following his father Percy’s tenure at nearby Ferndown. Together, the Alliss family became the first father-son duo to represent either side in the Ryder Cup.

A visit to Parkstone is highly recommended. Its scenic beauty, rich history, and engaging course design make it a memorable golfing destination.
