Peter Matkovich, the architect of Pinnacle Point, considers it the most dramatic golf course site he has ever encountered worldwide. Pinnacle Point near Mossel Bay has garnered global attention, named among the top ten new courses globally soon after opening. Its acclaim stems from its rugged beauty and the striking design of its holes, making it a highly-discussed destination among golf enthusiasts.
The course’s uniqueness lies in its location on an extremely high site next to the ocean, with holes spanning several kilometres along sheer cliffs above crashing waves. Matkovich was the first to tackle such challenging terrain for a golf course, employing bold and creative strategies to integrate eighteen holes seamlessly into the steep, rocky landscape.
Featuring three daring par threes on cliffs and greens strategically placed near edges, the design embraces the natural terrain, enhancing the course’s exhilarating play. Starting inland and descending towards the ocean, the course offers thrilling elevation changes. The back nine winds along the coastline, each hole offering breathtaking views of the ocean and cliffs.
