Stoke Park Club, located in Stoke Poges on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, blends historic charm with a renowned golfing legacy. Designed by Harry Colt and originally landscaped by Capability Brown, the course dates back to 1908, boasting notable features like the 7th hole, which inspired Augusta National’s famed 16th. Though originally a 27-hole layout, wartime impacts reduced it to 18 holes.
Renowned for its stately trees rather than heather, Stoke Park offers a challenging parkland course where strategic tee shots are crucial. The club’s centrepiece is an 18th-century mansion designed by James Wyatt, now home to the clubhouse, hotel, and restaurant. Stoke Park gained cinematic fame as the setting for golf scenes in the James Bond film “Goldfinger” and later featured in “Tomorrow Never Dies.” Over its history, the club expanded and restored lost Colt-designed holes in 1996 and added the Lane Jackson nine in 1999. Recent renovations, including bunker repositioning and course enhancements, maintained its prestige until its closure in 2021 following its sale to Reliance Industries.
After finally reopening in June 2024, Stoke Park resumed its position as a significant part of English golfing history, combining architectural splendour with a challenging and picturesque course.
