Golf has a long history at Turnberry, with the first course laid out in 1901 by Willie Fernie. Over time, additional courses were added, including the Ailsa, Arran, and Kintyre layouts. In 2014, Donald Trump’s acquisition of Turnberry marked a significant turning point, leading to extensive renovations overseen by Martin Ebert.
Under Ebert’s direction, various enhancements were made, including redesigning the pitch & putt course, refurbishing the practice facilities, and renovating the clubhouse. The highlight was the comprehensive upgrade of the Ailsa course, involving modifications to bunkers, fairways, and greens.
Additionally, the former Kintyre course was relaunched as the King Robert the Bruce course, paying homage to the Scottish king’s connection to Turnberry Castle. The redesign introduced new holes and reshaped existing ones, creating a challenging yet scenic layout.
With the renovation complete, Trump Turnberry became a prominent 36-hole golf destination, offering golfers a diverse and high-quality playing experience.
